  • Create appropriate action plans to specify the means by which the expectations will be realized.
  • Identify & form constructive relationships with stakeholders.
  • Custom design intervention strategies and activities.
  • Provide leadership development and training opportunities.
  • Analyze processes, resolve problems, and find solutions though the facilitation of group activity.
  • Implement strategies and activities that account for stakeholder interests and achieve established goals.
  • Evaluate the success of intervention strategies and leadership development activities.

Background Information

Mr. Embley is an accredited human resource professional with more than 30 years experience in the design, delivery and administration of human resource management programs, products and services. His area of specialization is leadership and organizational development.

Leadership and organizational development opportunities began innocently enough at the age of 20 with an assignment to open two fast food restaurants in Las Vegas, Nevada. The primary challenge was to hire, train, develop and lead more than 50 employees in the successful operation of both restaurants.

Over the next 30 years, human resource management skills were further refined and continuously developed through:

  • Progressively challenging experiences in a variety of human resource, leadership and organizational development positions.
  • Consulting opportunities with private, public and nonprofit organizations.
  • The award of a graduate degree in Human Resource Economics and two undergraduate degrees: one in Management and the other in Political Science from the University of Utah.
  • Accreditation as a Senior Professional in Human Resources.
  • Thirteen years as an owner of a retail store.
  • Opportunities to supervise people.
  • Opportunities to serve as a community volunteer.

Ken Embley & Associates, Inc.

During the 1980s, Mr. Embley was a Vice President for Commercial Security Bank (CSB), a billion-dollar asset financial institution located in Salt Lake City (KeyBank purchased CSB in 1991). One assignment was to develop and implement a performance management program for the Bank. A respected author and consultant referred to the program he developed as:

"The most sophisticated, comprehensive and strategically focused performance management system in the banking industry."

In 1988, Central Bank & Trust Company located in Rochester New York presented an opportunity for Mr. Embley to partner with their staff in developing and implementing a performance management program.

Over the next several years, different organizations partnered with Mr. Embley in developing and implementing a number of human resource management, leadership and organizational development programs. The work included:

  • Structuring and writing exempt and nonexempt job descriptions that meet the tailored need of different organizations.
  • Creation and implementation of performance management programs.
  • Development and implementation of coaching and other leadership development programs.
  • Resolution of unemployment disputes before an administrative judge.
  • Provision of outplacement services.
  • Implementation of base pay/compensation programs.


These service opportunities, and the opportunity to work with many associates created the need for an organizational structure to "house" consulting activities. In 1993, Ken Embley & Associates, Inc. was created. The mission of Ken Embley & Associates, Inc. is to:

Since 1993, Mr. Embley, through Ken Embley & Associates, Inc. has worked on his own or with a variety of associates to partner with clients in the provision of tailored leadership and organizational development products and services.

Ken Embley & Associates, Inc., and The University of Utah

In 1993, Mr. Embley accepted an opportunity with The Center for Public Policy and Administration (CPPA) at the University of Utah to partner with the State of Utah and the Department of Human Resource Management to teach, further develop and administer the state's Certified Public Manager (CPM) program. The CPM program is the state's leadership development program. It is an intensive, 300 hour classroom and practical application training experience for the supervisors of the state of Utah.

This initial opportunity developed into an employment contract with the CPPA and the University of Utah. The mission of the CPPA is to: provide research, education and services to public and nonprofit organizations that will strengthen administration, leadership and public policy making. Mr. Embley's role at the CPPA is to assist in achieving the outreach mission of the University of Utah by providing nonprofit and public organizations with leadership and organizational development products and services.
