Programs

A program is a training event designed to teach an audience to implement concepts outlined in a specific text. For example, an organization may want a training event written specifically for its culture and for its leadership based on the Ken Blanchard book Empowerment Takes More Than a Minute. Armed with proper permission, Mr. Embley can organize a training event around the content of Mr. Blanchard's book.

Coalition Leadership Program

The Coalition Leadership Program is based on the text: Catalytic Leadership: Strategies for an Interconnected World by Jeffrey S. Luke, Copyright 1998 by Jossey-Bass, Inc. (the web site for Jossey-Bass, Inc. is www.josseybass.com).

Purpose – The complex challenges facing today's coalition leaders have no quick-fix solutions. Interconnected in nature, with an impact on virtually every segment of society, these issues require that leaders in federal, state, local and nonprofit agencies reach out beyond their boundaries to engage a much broader group of stakeholders to create sustainable strategies to address them.

Coalition leadership presents a kind of leadership that is more successful with these complex, interconnected problems. Effective coalition leaders act as catalysts that convene multiple stakeholder groups, facilitate and mediate agreements around tough issues, think systemically and strategically about sustainable actions. They are passionate about reaching particular outcomes yet remain flexible and inclusive on specific strategies to reach the desired results.

The purpose of this Program is to summarize the lessons learned over the past decade around this question: How do you provide effective leadership to address difficult and interconnected public problems?

Classroom Hours – The Coalition Leadership Program varies in length depending on desired outcomes. Segments of the Program can be reviewed in as little as four (4) hours of classroom training. The entire Coalition Leadership Program is forty (40) hours of classroom training.

Mentoring Program

The Mentoring Program is based on the text: The Mentor's Guide: Facilitating Effective Learning Relationships by Lois J. Zachary, Copyright 2000 by Jossey-Bass, Inc. (the web site for Jossey-Bass, Inc. is www.josseybass.com).

Purpose – Learning is the fundamental process and the primary purpose of mentoring. Facilitating effective learning relationships requires mentor preparation and reflection throughout the mentoring process. Learning from experience is the key lever in facilitating learning. The tools included in this training are designed to stimulate and guide reflective mentoring practices by helping mentors to prepare throughtfully and develop and expand existing skill repertoires.

The purpose of this Program is to help participants develop mentoring skills and the ability to effectively use these skills to prepare for, negotiate, enable, and bring to closure a constructive mentor/mentee learning relationship.

Classroom Hours – The Mentoring Program is eight (8) hours of classroom training.

Quality Leadership Program

The Quality Leadership Program is based on the text: The Team Handbook, Oriel, Inc. The web site for Oriel, Inc. is www.orielinc.com

Purpose – Each of us have opportunities to work with a group of people, a team, to achieve a common goal. We work with people to create a car pool to get the kids to and from school. We volunteer to work with others to provide a service for the elderly in our neighborhood. We volunteer to coach a team. We work with relatives to organize a family reunion. We are active in our community and serve on an advisory board. We participate with others in our church activities.
